pink ribbon.

October. The National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM).
We all may have heard a fair bit about Breast Cancer but really haven't bothered to find out what's it really all about maybe because everyone always seem to believe that breast cancer only affects WOMEN 40 years and older. However, more and more young women are being diagnosed in their teens, twenties and thirties these days. Even MEN can be diagnosed with breast cancer! I'm not joking okay...statistics have shown that 1% of all diagnosed breast cancers are in MEN!

So, the In Support of Women (ISOW) club took up the "challenge" to create awareness amongst soon-to-be doctors&pharmacists&nurses&nutritionists...We had articles of celebrities who survived breast cancer, Self Breast Examining posters, human breast models from the Medical Musuem exhibited throughout the week. On top of that, we (the committee) thought it would be cool for us to sell PINK food stuff! Yes, you heard me right. There were PINK dougnuts *from J-Co*, PINK marsmallow-jelly *which looked oh-so-lovely of which i forgot to snap pictures of!*, and PINK home-made muffins.
oowh, and we had these real catchy badges too. *if you want them, let me know*

to all who have helped out in one way or another, a big thank you!
this event wouldn't have been a success if not for you ;)

Tale as old as time…

it was my all time favourite Disney movie.. still is actually

i used to love the singing teacups & clockworks & who can resist the ever-charming candle

watched it again a few days ago, and then i realised.. Beauty & the Beast might have given wrong notions of love to girls & women alike.

it endorses the fact that a girl can change her man, or in this case her beast.

do women really believe so?
that Men, all kind of men, womanizers, abusers, the sweet talker,
can be change by love from his girl..

it gives the girl an illusion of supremacy that men can change,
after the first look.
after the first kiss,
after stumbling out of her bed,
after his next affair,
after marriage..

But can they really?
or is what u see, really.. what u get?

blood.

sometimes we take for granted the little things like a wound healing after a scratch on the knee, but, learning haemostasis (the process of blood clotting and then the dissolution of the blood clot, following repair of the injured tissue) this week...makes me marvel at how these seemingly simple things are actually not that simple.

Having to remember the 13 different clotting factors *which include weird names like Christmas?! & Stuart Prower* and how an activation of one leads to the activation of another really makes me go goo-goo-gaa-gaa...

having said that, i am looking forward to wet-lab this Thursday where i will be "discovering" my blood group. oooh the excitement!

to you...sometimes what seems to be the end is really a new beginning.
i know you're sad but trust me...you deserve better.

warm days

winter is over.
the weather is warming up.

The days are longer, sunsets even more vibrant than before. the air is thicker.
and the heat lingers even on the flowers, room, earth.

People are staying out more. The campus comes alive even at 7 in the evening. lazy days at the hill is always a must.
and the air is always filled with flowers bursting with honeyed oils, sizzling bbqs, chlorine and noises from newly discovered nocturnal animals.

i love.

letter 2 miss poh

MISS POH!

i haven't seen u online for agesss or even talked to u so this is like a summary-with-pics-and-all-i-can-remember from the past few weeks!

i'll start

exams are coming and i'm getting worried. i actually have began to do work in the library cuz my room is filled with distractions! namely, cookies & facebook!
the cookie really does look evil right? makes u wanna reach out for that chipsmore right? sigh.. SEE! distractions distractions distractions.

well moving on to other less evil things..
my one week holiday was left unproductive *as usual la u know me*
spent my time watching movies & going out shopping and basically just bumming around making noise on my floor.

THEN we decided at a spur of a moment to go for my college ball! it's called Chishom*my college name* Ball and we thought, y not! dunno anybody there also just go la! and i did.
i even have pictures to prove!

it was quite a big event so must be vain abit to coordinate clothes la, accessories and hopefully a hot guy on my arms.
but well as u always say, 2 out of 3 isn;t that bad right? at least i got the dress & jewellery!

it was real fun! but i wished u were here too it would have been a blast!

this was before the ball where we had to "berkumpul" to "naik bas"!

we congregated at about 7 to wait for some kind of "party bus" to come pick us up! then me the sua ku has got no idea what a"party bus is" i thought it would be some kind of nice air-cond-leather-seats-nice-smelling bus know! then LO-and-BEHOLD! i was greeted with this!

well not exactly a BUS SEKOLAH la but it looks like one k! i show u the interior..

sigh all me hopes and dreams of nice nice bus failed!! but this is a "party bus" remember,so guess what they have! horribly loud music PLUS disco lights! dun play play ar.. even the bus driver is younger than his other associates driving normal bus! anyway all part of the experience right? so just ride along..

neways we reaches the Melbourne Aquarium where and it looked gorgeous. greeted by drinks and canapes plus nice smiley waiters. it's like stepping into some magical place where people are suddenly all friendly and nice with fishes swimming around! *i swear even the fishes were smiling*

so we found a table, sat down, and bein the kiasu asians, must also find friends to sit down with us also! so it wouldn't be a total bore.. so we did!
and it was a 3 course meal dinner..
so how does a 3 course meal dinner drag until 12 midnight u ask? i shall show u!

after the entree of risotto *which wasn't my fav* there was a 1 hour break before main course. this one hour is designed specially for people to TAKE PICS! and walk around! YAY!! finally, a dinner plus vanity fair session plus quality checking after every pic is taken! BLISS

so we did lo, we took pics, drink, take more pics, eat, comment on how some people had no taste in dresses, take pics, looking for cute guys, disappointed, drink, take pics.. the list goes on!

if i remember correctly, u love pictures of food so here it is!

main course of lamb + potatoes + baby carrots + other unidentified vegies

dessert was choc mousse + raspberries!
so we can conclude that d food was good and here goes, the scenery was lovely too. my camera didn't do justice of course but it really was a nice visit-melbourne-poster-like-background.
well you have to use a bit of imagination in order to see the "visit-melbourne-poster-image"

all in all, it was a great night filled with friends, pretty things & food! oh did i mention pics? yeap takin pics too!

muaxx!

miss u yi wen!

what's your personality?

On Wednesday, i had a one hour lecture on 'Personality & Health' and it was one of the best lectures ever. Our lecturer, Mr. Alexius Cheang was hilarious in his ways and the best part was that he showed us this really really cool video. Generally, people can be divided into 4 different categories based on their temperaments. The temperaments are as follows...

The SANGUINE is the popular person who wants to have fun out of every situation and be the life of the party. Sanguines love to talk!
The CHOLERIC is the powerful person who wants to take control of every situation and make decisions for others. Cholerics love to work.
The MELANCHOLY is the perfect person who wants everything done in order and done properly and who appreciates art and music. Melancholies love to analyse.
The PHLEGMATIC is the peaceful person who wants to stay out of trouble, keep life on an even keel, and get along with everybody. Phlegmatics like to rest.

Okay okay let's just watch the video...

p/s: funny ain't it? so, which one are you? think about it!

I heart SG Day

listening to : stand by me *old but definitely gold*

it was a sat & the sun was shining, birds chirping, and hey! if you were imaginative enough could prob see a rainbow peeking out of somewhere.. u get my idea d day was gorgeous! and to add to the perfection was the thought of Singapore Day with its whole promise of free FOOD, CHU KANG, mr DICK lee *dun look at me i did not name him* and FOOD *get my point?*

so we got on d tram, woke up early & even skipped breakfast cuz of d oh-so-magical-F-word that promises us many many things to come!!

BUT i found out d hard way, THIS man, makes u work 4 your food!

work! dun play play ar! nothing is free in this world!

some would say sing for your supper but nonono nothing's so simple in life, nothing can be handed to u in a silver platter, when u WORK for your food.. it's gonna taste betta!.
we Malaysians do not understand this concept because.. alamakk everywhere got mamak stall.. no need work and everyone's SLACK! right?
so we copied the locals and this is what we did..

THIS!

and THIS!

until everybody ended up looking like.. THIS!

BUT all's good & well because after one and a half hours, the gates of paradise open to us..
not only that!
going in ar.. like airport check in terminal k? dun play play.. check bag laaa.. cannot bring water laaa.. then again it makes sense.. if anyone were to bomb the place.. half of singapore population in melb die.. macam mana?! who wanna explain to D BIG MAN?!

so all is good at last, with the promise of food & goodie bags.. apa apa pun boleh la!

after getting in, it was a whole SEA of singaporeans *asians* and guess what they do doing!

lining up 4 bak cho mee

lining up for bak kut teh

sooo apa boleh buat?! line up also la! gotta join in d singaporean kiasu-ness-i-want-everything-NOW fun! so we did it! and D BIG MAN really made it all worth it!
d curry mee was awesome, smooth, full of flavour with crispy crispy stuffs also which i have no idea what they are but they're heaven-sent!
it's either d food was already awesome or d waiting & hunger made it awesome, either way i dun care i get my makan!

so we had our curry mee, chic wing *which i lined up one hour for*
dun laugh ar! after lining up one hour, my chic wing just HAS to taste better than any other i have ever tasted!
this whole lining up for chic wing was SERIOUSLY tantalising to senses k.. at 45 mins all u can see are the amount of people in front of u.. then you're not very sure whether the chic wing will feed all of u.. what if not enough? what if d fat aunty in front of u takes for a million other people?

THEN! when it comes to half an hour, u see smoke.. u see familiar chic wing bbq-ing smoke..
and at 15 mins.. u SMELL d oh-so-familiar smell of chic wing..
and VIOLA! when you're there.. aunty give u 3 pieces with chili & garlic sauce!
all worth it!

all in all it was a fantastic day filled with people you've not met for a while, people u see everyday, food, tons of goodie bags, food, and great weather!
oh yes not forgetting Mr Yellow-Boots

note: yellow boots = Phua Chu Kang

it was a great day! and all d lining up in a queue, pushing from AH SOH, goodie bags, KAYA were all things familiar to home and it was a fantastic day well spent in the company of friends & strangers alike.

till next time!

disobey & you'll die!

the movie was set to begin at 11.00am and at 11.10am we were still contemplating on whether to watch it or mama mia...so, yea we went in late. owh, and did i tell you that after getting the movie tickets, we actually qued up to get some popcorns and coke. but the show was worth watching. really. it kept us at the edge of our seats half of the time! furthermore, there's Shia La Beouf, any show with him in it makes the show worth watching, right? i don't want to be a spoiler here, so, you go watch it for yourself!
p/s: i heard there's going to be a transformers 2! yay ;)

because we never know when...

My brother-in-law opened the bottom drawer of my sister's bureau and lifted out a tissue-wrapped package. "This," he said, "is not a slip. This is lingerie." He discarded the tissue and handed me the slip. It was exquisite; silk, handmade and trimmed with a cobweb of lace. The price tag with an astronomical figure on it was still attached. "Jan bought this the first time we went to New York, at least 8 or 9 years ago. She never wore it. She was saving it for a special occasion. Well, I guess this is the occasion." He took the slip from me and put it on the bed with the other clothes we were taking to the mortician. His hands lingered on the soft material for a moment, then he slammed the drawer shut and turned to me. "Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. Every day you're alive is a special occasion."

I remembered those words through the funeral and the days that followed when I helped him and my niece attend to all the sad chores that follow an unexpected death. I thought about them on the plane returning to California from the Midwestern town where my sister's family lives. I thought about all the things that she hadn't seen or heard or done. I thought about the things that she had done without realizing that they were special.

I'm still thinking about his words, and they've changed my life. I'm reading more and dusting less. I'm sitting on the deck and admiring the view without fussing about the weeds in the garden. I'm spending more time with my family and friends and less time in committee meetings. Whenever possible, life should be a pattern of experience to savor, not endure. I'm trying to recognize these moments now and cherish them.

I'm not "saving" anything; we use our good china and crystal for every special event-such as losing a pound, getting the sink unstopped, the first camellia blossom.

I wear my good blazer to the market if I feel like it. My theory is if I look prosperous, I can shell out $28.49 for one small bag of groceries without wincing. I'm not saving my good perfume for special parties; clerks in hardware stores and tellers in banks have noses that function as well as my party-going friends'.

"Someday" and "one of these days" are losing their grip on my vocabulary. If it's worth seeing or hearing or doing, I want to see and hear and do it now. I'm not sure what my sister would have done had she known that she wouldn't be here for the tomorrow we all take for granted. I think she would have called family members and a few close friends. She might have called a few former friends to apologize and mend fences for past squabbles. I like to think she would have gone out for a Chinese dinner, her favorite food. I'm guessing-I'll never know.

It's those little things left undone that would make me angry if I knew that my hours were limited. Angry because I put off seeing good friends whom I was going to get in touch with-someday. Angry because I hadn't written certain letters that I intended to write-one of these days. Angry and sorry that I didn't tell my husband and daughter often enough how much I truly love them. I'm trying very hard not to put off, hold back, or save anything that would add laughter and luster to our lives.

And every morning when I open my eyes, I tell myself that it is special.
Every day, every minute, every breath truly is...a gift from God.
